Commercial Customers
Euro Recycling has been destroying the confidential information held on our customer's data bearing IT assets since 2002. Our mobile onsite service was introduced in 1997 and is government approved having passed through the CESG Claims Test Mark, CCTM approval process. Our fixed and mobile data destruction services are BS8470 (superseded by EN15713) compliant as recommended by the Governments Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, CPNI.
BS8470 is a physical destruction standard so only covers shredding and disintegration and not degaussing and wiping. BS8470 is incorporated in Euro Recycling's ISO 9001 and requires:
- Various shred size particles dependant on the surface area of the device being destroyed.
- Staff to be vetted to BS7858.
- Destruction of confidential material within 24 hours of arrival at destruction centre.
- Secure box bodied vehicles.
- Secure premises.
As well as physical destruction Euro Recycling can degauss magnetic media onsite though this is only usually required when highly sensitive information needs to be declassified before being moved offsite for physical destruction. As Euro Recycling can shred/disintegrate onsite or provide secure transport for physical destruction offsite, degaussing is rarely required. Degaussing only works on magnetic media like hard disc drives and data tapes but has no effect on optical media like CDs and DVDs.
If data bearing devices are to be reused (mainly hard drives for PCs) Euro Recycling will data wipe the hard drive using CESG approved Blancco or Kroll Ontrack wiping software.
Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard
Companies that use credit/debit card information need to ensure that they conform with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, PCI DSS. The PCI DSS requires that users of payment card information:
"Verify that card holder data on electronic media is rendered unrecoverable via secure wipe program in accordance with industry accepted standards for secure deletion or otherwise physically destroying the media"
Euro Recycling can secure wipe using Blancco or Kroll software however physical destruction via shredding or disintegration is usually much more cost effective and conclusive.
Media Safes
For added onsite security Euro Recycling can provide Media Safes to be used at the customer premises to store computer hard drives and magnetic/optical media. When the safes are full they can either be swapped for an empty one and the sensitive information taken away in secure transport for destruction offsite or the contents can be shredded onsite and witnessed by the customer.
